CM Rawat felicitated by Hotel and Restaurant association
DEHRADUN Hotel and Restaurants owners thanked and honoured Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat at a function for resolving their grievances expeditiously, here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the aim of his government is to encourage tourism in the state. He said that hotel industry is closely associated with tourism and many concessions are given to them which is in the interest of the state.
Chief Minister said that an international study has revealed that an investment of Rs 10 lakh done in industry, farming and hotel industry respectively results in employment for 18 per cent in industry, 38 per cent in farming and 78 per cent in hotel industry. He further said that to promote tourism, the state government has started working on the plan of “13 district,13 new tourism destinations.”
He said that Mussoorie and Nainital are saturated and there is need to look for new destinations. He said that the state government has got 900 acres of IDPL land at Rishikesh, where an international convention centre on 700 acres, five big hotels, yoga wellness centre would be developed. He said that there is only one such centre at Hyderabad in India and another in Switzerland. He hoped that the convention centre will bring Rishikesh on world map. He said that work on several projects between Rishikesh and Haridwar are on.
He said that besides all weather road and Badrinath railway link, work on five big and 22 smaller air strips under ‘Udaan’ project will provide better connectivity in the state and open doors of more avenues for tourism sector. The Chief Minister said that efforts are on to make Tehri lake an international tourism destination. He said that ‘Tehri Mahotsav’ will be held next month in Tehri.
The Chief Minister announced that ‘Adi Anant Shiv” laser show will be held at Kedarnath. The live show will showcase appearance of Lord Shiva on the walls of Kedarnath temple. For this 30 tonnes of material will be brought to Kedarnath and one of the devotees is getting the show on his own expenses.
Regarding the concessions to hoteliers, he said that the electricity bills will be based on meter readings, earlier it was fixed. He said that plans are afoot to bring water from Suradhar and Song in Dehradun, Jamrani In Haldwani, from Pancheswar dam to Dehradun , Haldwani and Udham Singh Nagar through gravity water schemes.
He said that this would address the problems of low underground water levels and save crores of rupees spent on electricity used for pumping water. He said that all these plans are being made keeping the future demands in view. He said that his government does not believe in only making announcements but focuses on developmental works being done at the ground. He asked the hoteliers to give their suggestions for giving a fillip to tourism industry in the state.
The Chief Minister further said that entire Uttarakhand is a film city. With tremendous scenic beauty and to attract more and more filmmakers, the state government has waived the fee for shooting in the state. He said that as a result many films are being shot in the state and people along with hoteliers would benefit from it.
The Chief Minister said that the aim of his coming visit to Thailand is to explore the possibilities of investments in tourism, industry and food processing sectors. Uttarakhand Hotel and Restaurant Association Patron S.P. Kochar, President Sandeep sahni, Doon Hotel Association President Sanjay Gupta were present on the occasion.
